Get Started with Dragon1

• The data I enter in text fields is NOT stored!

  • On the web it is common practice to press TAB after filling in a word or number in a text field. Also press the SAVE button, if available, at the bottom of a form. And you may NEVER touch the browser's back button. If you work like this, never any data will get lost.

• Login Issues with Dragon1

  • Some people forget to fill in the captcha. Just add the numbers of the dice.

General FAQ Topics

• Do you have a Technical online support ?

  • A. YES, users are entitled to contact us anytime via email, skype/lync, or phone for technical online support (compliant with the purchased service level). The Bronze service level is free.

• Do you have Version updates?

  • A. YES, at least four times per year we have a major update and if necessary a hotfix within a day. We always notify our users when an update is coming up. We make sure all updates are downward compatible with the data.

• Do you have a user training ?

  • A. YES, we do provide online /elearning tool training and Class Based tool Training on your location (under certain conditions).

• What is the total cost of ownership ?

  • A. The license cost per user for the professional edition is 2990 USD per year (including bronze service level). We do not have any extra acquisition or operating costs for users. We do have quantity discounts (5 users, 10 users, etc…)
    

• Which framework does the tool support ?

  • A. We support all major frameworks like TOGAF and ArchiMate. We also have users using BIAN, DODAF, and MODAF. Dragon1 enables users to define their meta model (framework/method).

• Can open the model be used by multiple users at the same time?

  • A. YES, Dragon1 is built to support collaborative working on data, models, views, visualizations, and all other types of content. So with many users in many locations, you can work on the same model. Dragon1 makes sure that the database is consistent (with referential integrity) all the time.

• Does Dragon1 automatically generate reports?

  • A. YES, users can define and edit report templates and have a report generated using the template, and there are some default reports available on Dragon1 (like the process-application dependency report).

• Does the Dragon1 tool have the opportunity to grow ?

  • A.YES, as a user you can upgrade to a more advanced edition of Dragon1 and you can increase the number of user licenses (from 1 to 100+) or number of locations you use on Dragon1, without having to re-enter data or having to move to another Dragon1 account or database.

• How many ways to visualize model data does the Dragon1 tool provide?

  • A. On Dragon1, you can visualize model data in various ways: 1) by drawing a model with data from scratch in the visual designer, 2) by entering data and building it up via the repository (defining relationships) and 3) by editing a reference model and 4) by import data and generating it via a template.

• Does Dragon1 support traceability?

  • A. YES, you can for instance click on an item in a model and then the path to other items is shown via colors and/or highlight. Also, you can create reports with paths.

• Is Dragon1 adjustable and customizable?

  • A. YES, the tool can be personalized to users or the organization's look and feel and options in many ways. Every access to functionality and data is with Role Based Access Control (RBAC) and users can define their entity classes and upload their symbols and shapes to use in drawing instead of standard shapes. And there are many more options and switches to set up the tool exactly the way you want it.

• Does Dragon1 have a standards-based integrated architecture repository?

  • YES, we make use of standards like TOGAF and ArchiMate for our repository structure. Users can structure their Architecture Repository compliant to TOGAF and ArchiMate but also choose their structure. Or define a structure for all other users in the account.

• Does Dragon1 have an integrated solution for parallel development and configuration management?

  • A. YES, Individuals and teams can work in parallel on Dragon1. They can define and try different versions (branche out) of the same models. Some users use Dragon1 as a CMDB / configuration management tool as part of their IT Service Management (ITIL, BSL, ASL).
