Definition Ambitions
Ambition is what you or an organization aims to achieve in the mid- to long-term.
An ambition of yours can be to learn a new language or master a musical instrument in the next year.
The ambitions of an organization for the next five years can, for example, consist of the following:
- We aim to take our first steps as a telecommunication/retail /agritech/aviation/renewable energy company in the European and international markets in 1 to 2 years and to be a global player in five years.
- We strive to ensure that all our target groups in Europe know and use our product and can also assess whether our product is of added value to their organization.
Let us define ambition in the strategy reference model, which shows where ambitions (strategic intentions) are positioned within the field of enterprise architecture.
In this model, ambitions have already been translated into strategic intentions so that goals and objectives can be linked to them. The concrete, focused direction that indicates how that ambition can be achieved, for example: 'increase our online sales by 20% in 6 months by focusing on social media marketing', is what we call strategic intent.
Ambition is the 'why' and the 'what' in the long term, while strategic intention is the 'how' with measurable steps and a clear goal.
